Welcome to my website. My new book, Before the Light Fades: A Family Story of Resistance, is out now in paperback. Sarah Waters called it 'The perfect read for daunting times,' Edmund de Waal described it as a 'fierce and beautiful book', and Philippe Sands said it is 'eloquent, piercing, gloriously humane.'
I'm also the author ofLiving Dolls: the Return of Sexism, a book about young women and the hypersexual culture. I founded the charity Women for Refugee Women, where I was the director for 15 years. I used to work full time as a journalist, and I still often write for the Guardian and the Observer, as well as other outlets. I've also published a novel, A Quiet Life, and another work of non-fiction, The New Feminism. I've been Visiting Professor of Women's Rights at Cambridge University and I'm now Honorary Professor at the Centre for Climate Crime and Climate Justice at Queen Mary University of London. I'm currently working on a new book, Feminism for a World on Fire, which will be published in 2025.
